Symbol Recognition

At Viewport.ai, we are pioneers in developing intelligent software solutions tailored for the process industry. Our state-of-the-art software aims to make large volumes of technical data readily accessible and interpretable. A significant part of our innovation lies in recognizing and classifying symbols, such as valves, pumps, and vessels, on technical drawings.

We are looking for a dedicated intern to assist us in advancing this capability by developing a neural network model capable of accurately identifying and categorizing these symbols from technical drawings.

What You Will Be Doing

- Developing a neural network model specifically designed for the recognition and classification of technical symbols such as valves, pumps, and vessels in technical drawings.

- Collecting and preparing datasets for training and testing the neural network, including identifying, annotating, and categorizing technical symbols.

- Implementing and testing various machine learning algorithms to improve the accuracy and efficiency of symbol recognition.

- Collaborating with the software development team to integrate the symbol recognition model into the existing Viewport.ai platform.

- Conducting performance evaluations of the model, including metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score, to ensure optimal functionality.

Requirements

- A proactive and investigative mindset.

- Proficiency in development and programming languages.

- A solid understanding of machine learning (ML) principles and tools.

- The ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.

We are an IT company based in Amsterdam. We provide technical information and knowledge management Software, called Viewport.ai. The software is delivered as product or as a service (SaaS) to their process industry customer in Water, Power, Oil and Gas and chemical sectors worldwide. Customers include Engie, WML, Total, Wintershall, BASF, and Spirit Energy.

The Viewport.ai software detects cross links between documents, drawings and data from various sources using techniques as OCR, image processing, and fuzzy matching. These cross links offers end users an unprecedented unified view of the available information and assists them in maintaining consistency across multiple domains.

What students are we looking for?

We are looking for graduated bright engineers with a broad interest and an entrepreneurial spirit. We believe that software should solve real-world problems for our customers, and should be easy to use. Having customer focus with an agile mindset is therefore a must. Development is done primarily in C#, JavaScript and SQL. For the adventurous type we may have projects abroad, e.g. UK, Norway, UAE, Singapore, and Australia.
